Two arrested for ID theft

Two men were booked into San Mateo County Jail Tuesday after stealing a Woodside resident’s personal information to purchase $150,000 in high-end electronics, said Lt. Marc Alcantara of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew Kluchnikov, 48, and Michael Tsarevsky, 35, both of San Francisco, were arrested Tuesday after a two-month investigation by the San Mateo County Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team, according to a press release issued yesterday by the Sheriff’s Office. The duo stole mail from a Woodside resident and fraudulently obtained a credit card. They charged $150,000 in electronics to the card between Feb. 15 and Feb. 27, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was notified by his banking institution of the unusual charges and then called the police, Alcantara said. To avoid becoming a victim of mail theft, the Sheriff’s Office strongly suggests residents use locking mailboxes and report suspicious people to the police.
