Three transients were rescued while stranded on a cliff side in Pacifica on Monday, after trying to find a place to camp, according to Lt. Ken Jones of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

"They climbed down over the side of the cliff," Jones said. "One person injured his shoulder trying to climb back up."

Robert James Herrington, 22, suffered injuries to his arm and was given a ride by a passing motorist to San Mateo Medical Center. Herrington's girlfriend, 32-year-old Kristen Roach, and another unidentified Hispanic male in his 30s were also trapped on the cliff side. The Coast Guard, in conjunction with the North County and Half Moon Bay fire departments, rescued the two stranded transients by helicopter, according to Angelina Ciucci of the North County Fire Department.

They were taken to the Half Moon Bay Airport with no reported injuries.

"Just don't try and climb down the side of Devil's Slide," Jones said. "There are signs posted everywhere. It's very steep, and if you fall down, you could fall in to the water."
