Sheriff’s deputies extinguish fire

Published on 11/1/2011

An early-morning downtown Half Moon Bay fire Sunday was extinguished by deputies on patrol after they spotted smoke coming from a commercial building complex at 840 Main St.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Chris Laughlin was on routine patrol on Highway 1 at Seymour Street when he saw smoke from the building with three separate businesses, Coastside Dentistry, Ellen Joseph Gallery and Main Street Hair Design, according to sheriff’s officials.

After calling the fire in to county communications and requesting support from the fire department, Laughlin and Deputy John Sanchez used fire extinguishers from the patrol vehicles to control the spread of fire. Most of the fire was contained, and firefighters located some internal fire areas that had to be extinguished as well. The fire was believed to be electrical, according to sheriff’s officials.
