Man arrested for lewd acts with a 10-year-old

Published on 4/1/2011

A San Carlos man is in custody for allegedly engaging in lewd acts with the 10-year-old daughter of family friends, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Yung Chi Chu, 46, was arrested at his San Carlos home 7 p.m. Wednesday by sheriff’s deputies. He is being charged with 12 counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14; one count of sending harmful matter with the intent of seducing a minor; and one count of contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Chu is currently being held in the San Mateo County Jail with a $250,000 bail.

The charges against Chu stem from a call by the victim’s parents who were concerned that their daughter was receiving an inappropriate number of cell phone calls and text messages from a family friend, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Chu, who had been an information-technology technician for the Menlo Park City School District, was identified as the family friend and evidence obtained from the victim led to the issuance of a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and work site, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives executed the search warrant Wednesday morning and, by Wednesday afternoon, they had obtained the warrant for his arrest.

Anyone who believes they may have information concerning this investigation is encouraged to contact sheriff’s detective Sgt. Bryan Raffaelli at 363-4058 or telephone the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Anonymous Tip Line at (800) 547-2700.
