Sheriff's K-9helps capture burglar who rammed car into western wear store
NORTH FAIR OAKS, Calif. —
A San Mateo County sheriff's K-9 helped capture a burglarwho crashed a vehicle into the back of a western wear store in North Fair Oakson Wednesday night and then started stealing items through a damaged door.
Just before midnight, deputies were dispatched to DiscotecaDona Lety at 2821 Middlefield Road after the business owner, who was not at thestore, reported seeing a burglary in progress remotely through his videosurveillance system, Lt. Larry Schumaker said.
Arriving deputies spotted a black Volkswagen parked outsidea damaged metal roll-up door at the back of the business, Schumaker said.
It appeared that the suspect, later identified as CarlosMolina-Zavala, 21, of San Jose, had crashed the Volkswagen into the door inorder to gain entrance to the business, according to the sheriff's office.
Once inside, Molina-Zavala began loading the car withmerchandise, Schumaker said.
When deputies arrived, Molina-Zavala allegedly tried to hidefrom them near the front of the store, but was tracked down by a sheriff's K-9named Artos and was taken into custody, sheriff's officials said.
Molina-Zavala was arrested for resisting arrest, commercialburglary, vandalism and an outstanding warrant from Santa Clara County.
He is being held without bail and is scheduled to bearraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court on Friday.
