| Three San Carlos residents are in custody for possessing and selling methamphetamine out of a home on Greenwood Avenue, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
A 5-year-old child was at the residence at the time of the arrests and officers also encountered eight pit bulls, two of which were deemed “aggressive,” after serving a search warrant Wednesday afternoon.
The names of the arrested were not made public to protect the child’s identity.
The child was temporarily removed from the house and placed into the county’s Drug Endangered Children’s van that was deployed specifically for this purpose, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began in March after police received multiple complaints about suspected drug dealing at a residence located on the 1500 block of Greenwood Avenue, said Marc Alcantara, commander of the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force.
Soon after receiving the complaints, agents from the task force began to monitor the activities of the household in earnest. Undercover agents were eventually able to arrange several covert buys of crystal meth from an occupant of the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Approximately a half ounce of crystal meth and paraphernalia associated with the sales and use methamphetamine were seized pursuant to the search warrant, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A San Carlos building inspector was summoned to the scene to assess the condition of the residence and later deemed it uninhabitable. The child was removed from the residence and taken into protective custody by a social worker from the San Mateo County Children and Family Services who was present at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and agents are still actively gathering and analyzing evidence.
Two women, aged 25 and 22, arrested in the operation are residents of the Greenwood home. The third suspect, a 47-year-old man, is a Redwood City resident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They faces multiple charges including possession of methamphetamine for sale, maintaining a place where drugs are sold, child endangerment, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $160,000 for one of the suspects.
