Coastal burglar sought by police
Published on 1/11/2011
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who may be responsible for a rash of burglaries on the coast.
The most recent incident took place Dec. 30 in El Granada when a residence was entered on the 100 block of Escalona Avenue through an open garage door or an unlocked main entrance door, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place in the early afternoon. Stolen were two guitars, a laptop computer, a video camera and a wedding ring, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect is described as a white man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, slender with dark hair and no facial hair.
He was seen by a witness on the street near the residence carrying an acoustic guitar and entering a black vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
While not identical, this burglary is similar to several other burglaries that have recently occurred on the coast in which the burglar entered the residence through unlocked rear doors and windows, according to the Sheriff’s Office. It appears that side gates are being used to enter backyards and the entries appear to be occurring during the day and early evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has information is encouraged to contact Detective Jim Gilletti at 363-4066. The anonymous witness line is (800) 547-2700.
