More trouble for gun-toting court visitor

The man convicted of bringing a loaded gun to his son’s court appearance and later violating parole with drug possession is again in hot water.

Prosecutors say Frank Luis Turney, 47, had methamphetamine and smoking pipes in his Pacifica home last November, nearly a year after he first violated probation for his gun case with similar drug crimes. That incident in turn was two years after Turney drew attention by bringing a handgun to his convicted burglar son’s criminal arraignment.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Turney on Sept. 19, 2007 after the metal detector at 400 County Government Center in Redwood City went off. The following August, he was sentenced to 30 days jail and three years probation.

In December, he was picked up for felony methamphetamine possession and sentenced to 90 days in a drug treatment program.

Two weeks later, on Dec. 30, authorities say he violated probation again by possessing drug paraphernalia.

Turney admitted the violation and was sentenced to six months in jail and three years of supervised probation.

He also has two felony drug possession convictions from February 2010, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Turney is in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
