Two juveniles were arrested Sunday afternoon after one admitted firing an air rifle at two motorcyclists traveling in the Kings Mountain area on Skyline Boulevard, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area and found that two separate victims were shot with an air rifle and required medical attention after one called 911.
One of the victims was shot in the right hand and a metal pellet traveled completely through her right hand ring finger as well as the thick leather glove she was wearing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The woman was transported to the hospital by her husband for further emergency medical treatment.
The second victim was shot in the knee and taken to San Mateo County General Hospital by ambulance for emergency medical treatment and evaluation.
Neither motorcyclist was able to provide any further details because they had not seen anyone along the highway with a weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Two deputies and a police dog searched the area and found two juveniles in the tree line on the east side of Skyline Boulevard, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The two juveniles admitted to firing an air rifle at passing motorcycles and cars on Skyline, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
One of the juveniles was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Youth Service Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an inhabited motor vehicle and throwing or projecting a metal object or missile at a vehicle to cause great bodily injury, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The other juvenile made several suicidal statements because he was caught committing this crime, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The suicidal suspect was placed on a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold at the the San Mateo County Hospital with special orders to contact the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office upon his release.
