Walgreens robbed at gunpoint in San Carlos

A man robbed a Walgreens in San Carlos at gunpoint Sunday night and remains at large, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and dressed in a black baseball hat, a black jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, entered the store, located at 1414 El Camino Real, at about 6:20 p.m. with a semi-automatic handgun, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses described the suspect as being Hispanic, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He escaped with an unknown amount of money.

The suspect targeted the manager, taking him to the back of the store and forcing him to unlock the safe. The manager did as he was told and the suspect emptied the contents of the safe into a black duffel bag, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the gunman told the manager not to call the police and left the back of the store. The manager called 911 immediately and police arrived shortly after 6:20 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.
