Coroner identifies third man who was shot, killed Wednesday

A victim who was shot and killed along with two others on Wednesday has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

Hector Flores, 20, of South San Francisco, was found in critical condition from gunshot wounds near the intersection of Eighth Lane and Linden Avenue at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to police officials and the Coroner’s Office.

Flores was found on one side of Eighth Lane with two teenage men who had also been shot, police Sgt. Joni Lee said.

Omar Cortez, 18, and Gonzalo Avalos, 19, both South San Francisco residents, were pronounced dead on the scene.

Flores was taken was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. He was in critical condition until Thursday afternoon, when he succumbed to his wounds, police said.

Another three victims were shot in the same incident on Wednesday, according to police.

The other male victims, all between the ages of 15 and 20, were found across the street suffering from wounds not considered to be life threatening, Lee said.

The three victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told police they saw three male suspects in their late teens or early 20s driving away from the shooting in a dark-colored early 2000s-model Chevrolet Impala with tinted windows.

The San Mateo County gang intelligence unit is actively engaged in assisting local police with the investigation.

The Police Department is stepping up patrols in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred and the community has been asked to participate in efforts to stem gang activity.
